How To Obtain Permission for Restricted Courses

You must be an accepted major in the Department of Fine Arts in either the BA or BFA program in Studio to enroll in studio art courses. All studio art courses are restricted to majors only.

Fine Arts Advising: Majors accepted into the BA program in Studio Art who need advising should contact Theresa Berbet to schedule an appointment. Majors accepted in the BFA program should contact their assigned mentor. Majors accepted into the BA program in Art History should contact their assigned Fine Arts advisor directly to schedule an appointment.  If you do not know the contact information of your advisor, please view the faculty & staff directory. If you do not know your assigned advisor, please call the Fine Arts office for assistance (502.852.6794).

100-level courses: Accepted Fine Arts majors wishing to enroll in 100 level courses DO NOT NEED permission from the department to register. If you are an accepted major and the system blocks you, contact Theresa Berbet in the Fine Arts Office for assistance.

300-level courses: Accepted Fine Arts majors wishing to enroll in 300 level courses DO NOT NEED permission from the department to register, provided all prerequisites have been met. If you are an accepted major and have met the prerequisites and the system blocks you, contact Theresa Berbet in the Fine Arts Office for assistance.

500-level courses: All 500 level Art courses require permission from the instructor to register. Please email the instructor of the course you wish to take with the following information:

          - Your full name
          - Your U of L student ID number
          - Your Major
          - Program you currently enrolled in: BA or BFA and which track
          - Prerequisites you have completed for this class

* Once the instructor has granted you permission, he or she will notify the Department staff to enter it into the registration system. Once your permission have been entered into the system you may then register for the course.

Permission for Art Courses is Restricted to Accepted Majors only. Permission is granted to non-majors under special circumstances only (i.e. students completing prerequisites for the MEd program in Art Therapy in the College of Education).

The Department does not permit auditing of courses by non-majors.

Please contact the Fine Arts Office if you have any questions or need any assistance at 502.852.6794.
