Miranda do Douro

After studying in Vila Real, students then traveled to the city of Miranda do Douro, on the border with Spain. Located along the Douro River, Miranda do Douro is one of the various places in Portugal with an important dam for hydroelectricity. There is also an international park along the Douro, which has organized trips to watch the wildlife, mostly birds of prey. Miranda is also known for it's cultural traditions, such the Pauliteiros (stick dancers) and for the local language of Mirandese.
