Two graduate students receive GSU research funds
Graduate Student Research Fund 2011
Graduate students Robin Valenzuela and Allison Mann received GSU research funds this year to help pay for research and travel expenses related to their thesis work.
Robin is studying the "John School" in Nashville, TN, which is a diversion program for first-time prostitution offenders. In particular she is interested in how these programs construct "the johns", how these constructions shape johns' perceptions of the risks involved with their participation in the sex industry and how these constructions affect the recidivism rate for program participants.
Allison is studying the population history of the Faroe Islands' male population using Y-chromosomal microsatellite markers. She will be using the GSU fund to help pay for travel expenses related to the annual American Association of Physical Anthropologists meeting.
