About

I am working with Dr. Peteet.

My primary research interests are Arab studies and migration studies. This interest led me to first volunteer then work at Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM). Working at KRM has fostered my commitment to help migrants and displaced persons become self-sufficient and active members of their adopted communities. In the graduate program at UofL, I plan to research more aspects of the displacement and resettlement experience while working with Syrian and Iraqi refugee communities. Currently, I'm interested in how effectively modern legal definitions of migrant status reflect the lived realities of forced migrants. My goal for the future is to use the knowledge that I gain as a student of anthropology to strengthen and grow programs that serve refugees and migrants through research that focuses on their experiences.
