UofL theatre invites public to audition for spring plays
Opportunity to speak up for diverse roles
The A&S Department of Theatre Arts is inviting the public to audition for its spring plays.
Auditions will be Jan. 8 and 9, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd Street. Roles are available for adults age 18 and over, open to gender and ethnicity.
Callbacks are scheduled for Jan. 10, beginning at 7 p.m.
Actors may audition for one or both of the spring plays “The White Rose” and “Sleep Rock Thy Brain.”
- “The White Rose,” by Lillian Groag, dramatizes the civil disobedience of university students at the University of Munich who pit their individual conscience against the power of the state. Directed by Russell Vandenbroucke, the play will be presented Feb. 27-March 3 at the Thrust Theatre. Parts are open for seven males and two females. Rehearsals begin Jan. 17.
- "Sleep Rock Thy Brain,” written by Rinnie Groff, Lucas Hnath and Anne Washburn and directed by Rinda Frye, is a collaboration with Actors Theatre of Louisville. The play will be performed April 10-14 at the Owsley Brown Theater at Lincoln Performing Arts School after its premiere in the Humana Festival of New American Plays. Casting includes opportunities for males and females of any ethnicity, age 18 to 35. Those cast will train to “fly” on stage so must weigh less than 225 pounds and have a strong core and good balance. Rehearsals begin Feb. 18.
