Mainstream movies use many larger than life elements in the effort to advance plots and suspend disbelief. In “You Mean There’s Race in My Movie?”, Gooding notes how the formulaic nature of these movies dictates specific character patterns when it comes to race through a witty and engaging examination of Hollywood movies in our culture. In the process, Gooding challenges audiences to think of reasons behind the creation and proliferation of these common racial character patterns or archetypes.
