Professor Catherine Fosl "Women in Racial Justice Movements: United States and South Africa"

Cate Fosl is Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Director of the U of L Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research. Her oral history-based talk will compare the experiences of women crossing the color line to end segregation in the post-WWII US with those who helped end apartheid in South Africa, 1948-1994. Using interview clips from oral histories conducted in Louisville, Atlanta, and during 2011 and 2012 trips to Cape Town, South Africa, Fosl will discuss similarities and differences in women's racial and social justice leadership between the two nations.
