“The Future of Whiteness” - Linda Alcott
- Monday, Feb. 18, 2013
- 4:30 pm
- Humanities Bldg, Room 300
By 2050 whites will lose their majority status, and many whites already live in cities and states in which they are a minority. How is this changing the political consciousness and self-understanding of whites themselves? How are whites reacting to the impending changes? What are the possibilities for new developments in white subjectivity? In this talk, Dr. Linda Martín Alcoff will explore the future of whiteness within a multicultural society.
Linda Martín Alcoff is a professor of philosophy at Hunter College of the City University of New York specializing in feminism, race theory, epistemology and existentialism. She was recognized as the Distinguished Woman Philosopher of 2005 by the Society for Women in Philosophy. Alcoff is the author of several book and articles, and her lecture, "The Future of Whiteness," previews her forthcoming book on this subject.
