Music Theory/Appreciation Program
The music theory part of the program is designed to aid the student in developing a functional knowledge and fluency with the basic elements of music. Major and minor scales, rhythm, sight reading, melodic improvisation, basic formal structure, harmonic progression, and voice leading are among the music theory topics to be studied. Active, experimental learning will be emphasized, with aural skills development being the cornerstone of this program.
The music appreciation part of the program will cover topics such as musical styles and periods, major composers and works, performance mediums, and an introduction to various instruments of the orchestra.
