The University of Louisville’s recently established Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research hosted its first Regional Symposium featuring national speakers, roundtable discussions and sessions on engaged scholarship and its relevance to social justice ideals.

What is Engaged Scholarship? It connects university research to problems and activities in the greater community. It engages faculty and students with in SUSTAINED collaborations with community organizations.

Associate Professor of African and Afro-American Studies at Brandeis University,

and author of Waiting Til the Midnight Hour: A Narrative History of Black Power

Following this lecture, UofL’s African American Theatre program presented a brief theatrical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on the 40th anniversary of his death.
