Alumni Council Scholarships
All applications are reviewed by the members of the respective Alumni Councils. It is within their discretion to award scholarships, change the criteria, and award additional scholarship money to qualifying applicants when circumstances are appropriate.
African American Alumni Council Scholarship
Who is Eligible?
African-American students who have earned at least 12 credit hours at the University of Louisville. Both graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Undergraduate applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 as of the end of the preceding fall; graduate students must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Students must also be registered for at least 6 credit hours at UofL the upcoming fall.
Financial need may be taken into consideration for final determination of awards.
What are the Award Amounts?
There are four awards of $1,000 each.
- Three $1,000 awards for undergraduate students
- One $1,000 award for a graduate student in memory of UofL Alumna and AAAC Board member Kimberly McKnight
How Do I Apply?
Submit the following:
- Completed award application (typed). Download the form.
- Copies of college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
- Typed essay indicating reasons why you should receive the award.
- Two letters of recommendation from professional contacts (may be sent under separate cover).
Application Deadline
All four items listed above must be received by Friday, April 1, 2011, for consideration for the fall 2011 scholarship.
