Remembering Kim McKnight
Event supports scholarships for African American students
UofL graduate Kimberly McKnight died unexpectedly in 2007 at age 43 after a brief illness. To honor her memory, her brother, Richard McKnight 90S, 97GS and members of the African American Alumni Council (AAAC) hosted a fundraising event May 18 at Louisville's Comedy Caravan.
More than 80 alumni, friends and family attended—and raised almost $900 for a scholarship fund for African American students at UofL.
Kim was a Louisville native and 1982 graduate of DuPont Manual High School. She worked her way through college while raising her young son and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from UofL in 1987. In 2006 she volunteered for service in Iraq as a nonmilitary contract specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Kim's family say they are grateful to the UofL Alumni Association and the AAAC for this scholarship honoring Kim's strong spirit and determination as exemplified by her service as treasurer of the AAAC, mother, professional and active church member.
To contribute in Kim's honor, donate online at http://give.louisville.edu/ and type "AAAC Scholarship" in the "Further Designation" field. Or you make a check payable to the UofL Foundation (write AAAC Scholarship in the memo line) and send to University of Louisville, Development Office, 2323 South Brook Street, Louisville, KY 40292.
