I've Joined. Now What?
I’ve already joined the UofL Advocates. What will I be asked to do?
As an Advocate, you will be kept up-to-date about developments in the Kentucky State House and Capitol Hill. We will frequently email you when we need your voice to help communicate our position on a specific piece of legislation.
What if I’m inexperienced in politics?
That’s okay. Even if you’re not politically active, you’re still an important member of the voting public, and legislators respect the opinions of all their voters. They also realize the countless advantages to improving higher education in Kentucky because of the impact it has on our economy.
What if I don’t even know who my state legislators are?
That’s okay too. We still need your voice to help communicate our position, and because you pay taxes, you have a vested interest in what happens in the Kentucky General Assembly regardless of how familiar you are with the people and the processes.
Through the Advocacy website we update our members on important legislative happenings and provide contact information for all of Kentucky’s state representatives. You can even look up your district’s representatives by entering your address.
Are my legislators going to read the emails I send them? Or am I wasting my time?
Legislators are elected representatives that make decisions on the public’s behalf. If they see that their inbox is full of 100 messages (or even 25) about improving the higher education system in Kentucky, that makes a statement. And that statement will carry over to the House floor. We, as the voting public and UofL Advocates, have the power to make change. Let’s make it happen here and now!
