Kim Hendricks

Academic Advisor:
College of Arts & Sciences/Department of Justice Administration
1. What is your favorite thing about advising U of L students?
I enjoy the variety of students, but more importantly I am honored to work with students who have chosen a field of study that serves and protects their community and their country. My job is made even better because I am part of a great advising team within a department that really cares about their students.
2. What is your favorite thing about working or living in the city of Louisville?
Being a native of Louisville, I have often heard it called the "little" big city. It seems as if we are all interconnected. I do not go many places without seeing someone I know!
3. How many years have you been advising students?
I started many years ago (1984) in the "School" of Business and then changed to the "School" of Justice Administration (1989), leaving soon afterwards to take care of my growing family. Returning after seventeen years feels as if I am home again!
4. What is your alma mater?
I received both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Louisville. I am a Cardinal through and through!
5. Name one interesting activity/hobby that you do outside of your profession.
My family is my hobby; next to them I enjoy photography and live music.
6. What has been your favorite place to visit?
Any place tropical, but my fondest memories are ones when I lived in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
7. If you could visit one place that you have never visited, where would you like to go?
Since I have such a love of the tropics, it would have to be Hawaii or the British Virgin Islands.
8. What was the last book you read?
Considering how busy I am with my family, it doesn't leave much time for reading. I resort to short stories or good magazine and newspaper articles. If I should get an opportunity to read, I choose stories depicting real life. I hope to read the story of Bob Marley's life in the near future.
9. If you could interview one living person in the world, who would you pick and why?
Of course with my love of the tropics and music, I would say Jimmy Buffet. His songs seem to mimic my life in many ways. I would be interested in knowing more about his thoughts behind the songs. An added feature might also be to include a beautiful interview location and possibly a ride on his sea plane!
10. What is your favorite "saying" or quote?
I have many in my life, but the two that I follow on a daily basis are "Live each day to the fullest" and "Take one day at a time".
11. If you had a personal chef for the day, what is the one meal you would request?
I am very lucky to be married to a man who is a wonderful cook/chef. He spoils me with delicious meals. However the one food he will not cook is lobster, therefore nothing is better than a wonderful lobster dinner in the right atmosphere!
12. What is one piece of advice that you wish you could tell all U of L students?
I often tell students to enjoy their time on campus and to make the most of their college experience. I truly believe that you get out of U of L what you put into it, both in and out of the classroom.
13. What is one thing you are most proud of about your advising experiences at the University of Louisville?
I cannot help but to be proud when I know that I have contributed to someone's positive experience at U of L. I am proud to be a part of the University community.
14. What was your favorite band/singer or movie in high school?
My favorite band would have to be Fleetwood Mac since I attended three of their concerts during my four years of high school. My senior quote was taken from one of their songs.
15. What question would you like to ask the next "Advisor in the Spotlight"?
Why did you choose to work for U of L?
