Contacting the  Financial Aid Office

As with many university offices, the month of August can be very tense. That is why the SFAO has provided the counselors' direct phone numbers. However, please understand that the counselors work on a rotation schedule. During the day they might be working in another part of the office. They sometimes have a student in their office etc.  SFAO counselors can typically check/answer their emails within a 24 hour period. If an advisor has an urgent situation, he/she can mark the e-mail as high priority and label the subject line "Academic Advisor Assistance". When a staff member sees an email with these identifiers, they have been instructed to respond as soon as possible.

Sending a student to see a counselor:

Students should always feel free to come by the SFAO to meet one on one with a counselor. Students can contact their assigned counselor to set up an appointment or the SFAO provides walk-in counseling from 9:00am-5:00pm. The SFAO remains open until 5:30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays while students are in classes for the fall and spring semesters.

Providing academic advisors with better understanding of the Financial Aid Process:

The SFAO has agreed to take part in the Advisor Education Seminars. Our hope is that SFAO can provide academic advisors with a general understanding of the Financial Aid Process, what happens if a student chooses to withdraw and at what time of the semester, what happens if a student begins to have a poor academic profile, etc. Mike Abboud is the Associate Director of Student Financial Aid Office and is responsible for supervising the counseling team, as well as determining better ways to serve the needs of students, parents, and staff at U of L. Please do not hesitate to contact Mike Abboud if you ever have questions or suggestions of ways the Student Financial Aid Office can do more to serve the needs of academic advisors and students. You can reach Mike via email at mnabbo01@gwise.louisville.edu or 852-8347.
