Open Enrollment
Plan
What types of insurance coverage are available?
Health
The university will offer the same five plans in 2008 that it offered in 2007.
The plans offer variety so you can find one that meets your needs. UofL contracts with Humana to use the Humana Choicecare PPO Network of physicians and health care providers for all of the plans. Humana processes claims for UofL based on the university’s plan. UofL plans do not require you to name a primary care physician.
Health Plan Waivers
If you have health coverage elsewhere, you may waive health coverage through UofL.
Pharmacy
UofL has one pharmacy benefit for people who take UofL health coverage. It is managed by Express Scripts. Under the pharmacy benefit, you pay a flat copayment for generic prescriptions and a percentage of the cost of the prescription, with a minimum and maximum copayment, for brand prescriptions.
Get Healthy Now
Get Healthy Now is a health management program that provides participants with health education and exercise programs and access to health coaches, both in person and via telephone. The program is designed to help UofL employees take a pro-active approach to their health management and to help the university slow the rise of costs associated with its health benefit. In addition, participants receive a $20/month discount on their health coverage. Those who waive health insurance can participate by paying $20/month.
Dental
UofL’s dental benefit is a PPO plan through Anthem Dental Blue. You can see any dentist, but will save more money and receive more benefits when you go to a dentist in the Anthem Dental Blue 200 Network. Dentists outside the network can bill you for charges above the amount covered by the Anthem Dental Blue plan.
Vision
UofL offers two vision benefits. One is an insurance policy through Anthem Blue View Vision. The other is a discount plan through the UofL Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Flexible Spending Accounts are the best way to save money on expenses you pay anyway. They allow you to set aside pre-tax income to use to pay for eligible health and day care expenses. Chard-Snyder manages UofL’s flexible spending accounts. Two separate accounts are available: health care or dependent care. You may enroll in either or both, or you may choose not to enroll at all.
Depending on your tax bracket, you can save 25% to 30% in taxes on every dollar you put into the plan. For example, if you were to set aside $3,000 this year for health care expenses, you would save nearly $1,000 in taxes if you are in the 30% tax bracket. If you set aside $5,000 for child care or elder care expenses, you would save as much as $1,500.
