Lew Acampora

Lew Acampora taught introductory and AP chemistry (among other sciences and mathematics) for twenty years in independent schools in North Carolina, California, and Kentucky prior to taking on his current position as statewide science content director for Advance Kentucky. Lew has acted as a reader, question leader, and currently exam leader for the AP Chemistry reading, and is a College Board consultant in chemistry.  He has also contributed candidate questions to the AP chemistry test and the PRAXIS tests for chemistry and physics, and has presented workshops at regional and national conferences.

Lew has developed curricular materials for chemistry education, integrating technology and molecular modeling and computational chemistry software into laboratory program.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Harvard University and has completed graduate work at University of North Carolina-Charlotte and Brandeis University.  He currently lives in Louisville with his wife, Lenore Hoyt, professor of chemistry at the University and Louisville, and his daughter, Artemis, who is destined to be a scientist.
