GEMS - Guaranteed Entrance to Medical School
The GEMS program recognizes the achievement of scholars committed to a career in medicine. Selected students who participate in programing, maintain a designated GPA, and achieve the required score on the MCAT are automatically admitted to medical school upon completion of their bachelor's degree and pre-med requirements. Ten scholars are selected each and interviews with the School of Medicine Admissions committee are scheduled in March.
GEMS applicants must:
- Have a 30 ACT or 1340 (CR + M) SAT
- Be in the top 5% of graduating class or 3.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Graduate high school in 2009
- Be a resident of Kentucky
- Submit an essay: autobiographical including plans and goals for the future (400 words or less)
- Submit an essay: prose or poetry on any subject ( 400 words or less)
- Submit GEMS letters of recommendation:
science or mathematics teacher
an employer, minister or other non-family, non-high school adult
- Submit a wallet-sized photo
