SROW Quotes!
SROW is a once in a lifetime experience that will help your office, your program, and your students grow and learn what orientation is all about. But don’t take my word for it, just read what past SROW participants have to say about the conference.
How would you describe your SROW experience?
- “I didn't really know what to expect before attending SROW, but it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my time with my school’s orientation program. It was great to be in a group of other students and professionals from orientation programs and see how passionate they are about their programs, like I am for mine. I learned so much about other schools and orientation structures and how to better explain our program to others, since it is so unique. All of the work we did to prepare for SROW definitely paid off during the weekend. It was such a crazy weekend full of passion, creativity, enthusiasm, school spirit, knowledge and FUN!”
- “My SROW experience was amazing! I met a ton of new people from different universities all across the southeast, performed twice in the dance competition, and learned
new ways to lead students. SROW was constant excitement!”
- “I would describe my SROW experience to be once in a lifetime. To see that many leaders so excited and enthusiastic about their school and getting to learn as much as they could and meeting so many new faces was absolutely incredible.”
- “I've been to a thousand conferences before but none like this. The excitement shown by each and every participant was amazing. The sessions were extremely informational. It was so much more than a conference; it was an experience”
What part of SROW did you enjoy the most?
- “Overall, I would have to say the energy that was always happening. No matter where we went or what we were doing, everybody was so excited and ready for the next event to come. The energy is what sustained me and held me through the full weekend.”
- “Seeing all the different schools from different parts of the country cheering each other on and bonding. It was great to meet other orientatio n leaders with just as much passion and excitement for their job.”
- “I really enjoyed attending presentations and presenting information to others, and learning new ideas about improving our program. I also loved seeing different programs show their school spirit and enthusiasm for orientation through skits, dances, and cheers.”
Are there things that you wish you would have known about SROW before you attended?
- “I wish I would have known just how action packed and fast the weekend flies by and the importance of meeting as many people as you can to make connections and learn from different programs!”
What are three things that you took away from SROW?
“1.) Personal e
xcitement for the rest of the summer. SROW really pumped me up and gave me encouragement for what the following summer had to offer.
2.) Knowledge and ideas that other Orientation Programs offered. Some of the most interesting sessions were other Programs talking about things they do as a staff or as a program. Being able to take things that other programs do and apply it to ours or compare it to ours was very rewarding.
3.) Personal strategies that I learned from other people that I could provide for my schools Orientation Program. Personal testaments of success gave me more of an ability to succeed at my school.”
- “During SROW, my school was a smaller represented group, but we stood out and really formed some great ties with other larger groups; it shows that even the little guy can stand out in a crowd! I got a lot closer to my orientation team through preparing for SROW and bonding and working together over the weekend. I also took away a great professional experience of presenting in front of a large group.”
What pieces of advice would you give to SROW first timers?
- “NETWORK!!! SROW is an amazing opportunity to network with other staffs and professionals from all over southeast US. You never know who you may run into or what opportunities my be presented to you.”
- “I would say to put yourself out there and build relationships with students from other schools; this will make the weekend so much more fun and allow you to learn ideas from other students during or even after SROW. Don't hold back your enthusiasm or passion for orientation, SROW is the place to let it all out!”
- “Let go, those people with you are immensely important every single one although it is fun to visit and meet everyone else. Memories are made in SROW and bonds are created that may last a lifetime."
