Chris: Orientation aint just creepin up on us, its right up on us. You guys ready?
Chad: I’m ready, I mean it’s a pretty exciting time of year for everybody involved. I can hardly wait.
Toree: There’s so many things to do, it’s a jam-packed 2 days.
Chris: Hey, Toree, what’s your favorite part of orientation?
Toree: I think my favorite part is at night on the first day when they have the orientation jam. You can come in and dance and get free snow cones. You can go to the game room, or the Interfaith center has free coffee!
Chris: That’s hot. What about you Chad?
Chad: Ummm…my favorite part about orientation would be all the lunches and the dinners that we have, cuz you get to hang out with all the new students and see what they’re like. You know any time with free food is a good time for me.
Chris: love the chicken fingers and cheese fries.
Toree: And you know what lunch on the second day there’s also an info fair where you can meet with all the student organizations and you can buy your parking pass and get information about athletic tickets.
Chad: What’s your favorite part about orientation, Chris?
Chris: Uhh…I guess it’d be registering for classes, you know that can be real tricky the first time around for these students. That’s why meeting with the academic advisors and planning out a schedule is really helpful during orientation, I mean that is the whole point of it.
Chad: Ya, advising and registration is one of the most important things they do during the orientation.
Chris: You’re right. What are some other things we could do, like during orientation?
Chad: One of my favorite things about orientation is being on the parent panel because they always ask some really good questions. I love to answer those and get any myths out of the way.
Chris: Ya, you’re right, parents are also important when it comes to choosing schools.
Toree: Something else that I really like about Orientation is the cardinal challenge on the second day.
Chris: Cardinal challenge is fun, that’s when they get to earn as many cardinal cash bucks as they possibly can.
Toree: Chris what’s Cardinal Cash?
Chris: Cardinal Cash, you know, those red pieces of paper with OUR faces on them. Turn them in and you can get a whole bunch of u of l paraphernalia.
Toree: That’s exciting.
Chris: Ya, it is.
Chad: I also like bringing out our dramatic sides during the real world skits. You know, whenever we show all the new students what its like to encounter all the different areas of life during college.
Chris: Such as…the whole roommate situation, or maybe even dealing with someone who has a different background then you.
Chad: Right. And then after that we break into small group discussion and facilitation, it’s a real eye-opener I guess.
Chris: Ya, if you’re from a small town and you’re not used to other people with other ways of life you can really learn something from those skits.
Toree: Well, I know I’m excited about orientation, and I hope that all of you new students are too. I hope you come with an open mind and are ready to have lots of fun.
Chris: I know, I can’t wait to see them!
Chad: GO CARDS!
