UofL Competitive Scholarships

Students must have all admissions documents and scholarship credentials on file by the January 15 deadline and must be a 2015 high school graduate. Students may earn only one competitive scholarship, and only one scholarship application is necessary to apply for all awards.

  • Grawemeyer Scholarship:
    full tuition, plus a stipend for room, board, and books ($7,000). Recipients will also receive an opportunity for undergraduate research.  - 31 ACT or 1360 SAT (CR + M) and 3.75 GPA.
          • One essay- A short essay describing a potential undergraduate research project. (500 words or fewer)
          • Two letters of recommendation
          • 10 awards given each year

      Brown Fellows: full tuition, room and board, plus a stipend for books. The program also includes a leadership retreat and local service activity; international travel as a group; and funding for individual enrichment opportunities. - 31 ACT or 1360 SAT (CR+M) and 3.5 GPA. Kentucky residents and non-residents may apply.

              • 10 awards given each year
              • Two letters of recommendation
              • Résumé
              • One essay -  Brown Fellows Program individual enrichment experiences typically occur in the summers following the sophomore and junior years.  Fellows work with program and faculty mentors to develop an enhanced academic experience consisting of individual study, research, community service, or some combination of activities.  If you were selected as a Brown Fellow, what would you be interested in pursuing for these individual enrichment experiences?  Where would you want to go?  Why?

    • McConnell Scholars: Recipients participate in programming designed to develop leaders. Amount of award determined by committee, and may include tuition and books.- 3.35 GPA and no minimum ACT. Limited to Kentucky residents.
                  • Two letters of recommendation
                  • Essay – Please outline your thoughts on leadership and how your career will lead to making a difference. (500 words or fewer)
                  • Ten Scholars accepted each year
        • Henry Vogt Scholarship: (formerly Hallmark) full in-state tuition, plus a partial stipend for room and board ($3,500) - 30 ACT or 1330 SAT (CR + M) and 3.75 GPA
        • Trustee's Scholarship: Award values range from $1,500 one-time awards, up to full tuition renewable for four years. - 26 ACT or 1170 SAT (CR + M) and 3.35 GPA
        • Eagle/Gold Scout Scholarship: $1,500 - full in-state tuition - 26 ACT or 1170 SAT (CR + M) and 3.35 GPA
        • Woodford R. Porter Scholarship: awarded to African-American students who are residents of Kentucky and southern Indiana; based on academic merit, leadership and service

          UofL Guaranteed Scholarships

          Students must have all admissions documents on file by January 15.  No scholarship application is required. Must be a Kentucky graduating senior in the Spring of 2015 and must be a full participant in any applicable programs.

        • Governor's Scholar Award - Full in-state tuition; 2013 Governor’s Scholars Program or Governor’s School for the Arts; 28 ACT or 1250 (CR + M) SAT and 3.35 GPA
        • Governor's Scholar Award - $3,500; 2013 Governor's Scholars Program or Governor's School for the Arts; 25 ACT or 1130 (CR + M) SAT and 3.35 GPA
        • Gatton Academy - Full in-state tuition; 2013 Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science.  28 ACT or 1250 (CR + M) SAT and 3.35 GPA
        • Gatton Academy - $3,500; 2013 Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science; 25 ACT or 1130 (CR + M) SAT and 3.35 GPA
        • Rogers Scholars - $2,500; 2012 Roger Scholar; 25 ACT or 1130 (CR + M) and 3.35 GPA.
        • National Merit Finalist - Full in-state tuition, plus a stipend for room, board and books ($7,000). Qualification as National Merit Finalist - Must list UofL as first choice with National Merit Corporation.
        • National Merit Semifinalist - Full in-state tuition. Qualification as National Merit Semifinalist - Must graduate from Kentucky high school with 3.35 GPA on 4.0 scale
