About the city of Louisville
If you are considering the University of Louisville as a possible choice for college, then consider the exciting possibilities that Louisville itself has to offer you. Even if you are from Louisville, you may not realize the synergy that exists between the city and the university.
The University has a long and rich history that began over 200 years ago, only a few short years after the city was chartered. As Louisville began to grow and prosper because of its unique location on the river, city planners envisioned that Louisville should have a quality school of higher learning. Thus were planted the early seeds of the UofL we know today.
Today, over 20,000 students attend UofL. Many of these students are enrolled in programs where they receive hands-on experience in the real world, as a result of the many partnerships between Louisville and UofL.
Besides the partnerships, Louisville offers fun, variety, and location. Located on the scenic Ohio River, Louisville is the largest city in the state with about one million people in the metro area. The weather in the summer can climb well past the eighty degrees mark, but the winters are mild, and the spring and fall offer a time to go outdoors and enjoy the spectacular sights.
There is never a lack of anything to do in the "River City," because Louisville knows how to party. On any given weekend it's easy to find things to do and see that don't cost much: international festivals, art fairs, neighborhood festivals, flea markets, outdoor concerts, museums, historical landmarks, events at the new Waterfront Park and much more.
