Russell Vandenbroucke (Professor and Chair)
Joined UofL as Chair of the Theatre Arts Department in 2001. Before that he served as artistic director of Chicago’s Northlight Theatre. Past productions at UofL: Bee-Luther-Hatchee by Tom Gibbons, The Practical Order of Things by Kim Brundidge for the AATP’s Juneteenth Theatre Festival of New Works, and The Trojan Women by Euripides, which he adapted from the prose translation of S.A. Barlow. As a playwright, he is the author of Feiffer’s America and Eleanor: In Her Own Words, Atomic Bombers, and Holiday Memories, his stage version of two Truman Capote stories. Books include Truths the Hand Can Touch: The Theatre of Athol Fugard, Contemporary Australian Plays (editor), and The Theatre Quotation Book: A Treasury of Insights and Insults. In addition to more than a decade directing and producing in Chicago, he has worked at such theatres around the country as The Mark Taper Forum, Yale Repertory Theatre, Sundance Playwrights Conference, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Virginia Stage, and New Harmony Project.
