Physical and CPTED based
Security Assessments

Security threats, vulnerabilities and exposures impact every organization today by creating risks that must be controlled and managed. Businesses and educational facilities that know the security risks they are facing and have taken action to manage them have a significant advantage in preventing crime at their facilities.

NCPI is here to assist our clients achieve this advantage by identifying their vulnerabilities through physical security and CPTED based security assessments. Security assessments obtain answers to questions such as these:

* What is to be protected?
* What are the vulnerabilities of what is to be protected?
* Who has access to sensitive areas?
* What measures can be taken to achieve the desired level of protection?

Physical and CPTED based security assessments are used to define security requirements for the design of new buildings or for the retrofit of existing facilities. Although the scope and level of each assessment varies, its goal remains the same--to determine the acceptable level of security protection for a given facility.

We at NCPI value our client’s needs, therefore we offer our Physical and CPTED based security assessments separately or together for a fully comprehensive security assessment. Below is a breakdown of the assessments for further clarification or contact us
for more information.

Physical Security Assessment

NCPI conducts physical security surveys of offices, plant, facilities and schools taking into consideration tactical security procedures as well as practical application. Our physical security assessment team is comprised only of Certified Protection Professionals, or CPPs, to ensure a high-quality and accurate assessment of your facilities.

NCPI’s physical security assessment includes an evaluation of emergency response to security incidents, current physical security hardware, lighting and fencing, as well as access control and CCTV. Our physical security team also conducts threat assessments of external exposure to burglary, robbery, assault and parking lot liability.

We at NCPI will also review your facility’s emergency procedures as part of our physical security assessment and provide the client with any recommendations we have to better your plan. We at NCPI want to make for certain that your security is adequate, cost effective and properly planned.

CPTED based Security Assessments

CPTED assessments are based on the concept that “The proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear of crime and the incidence of crime, and to an improvement in the quality of life.” National Crime Prevention Institute

CPTED is an abstract concept that is sweeping the nation and having positive results.

Crime prevention through environmental design assessments go beyond dead bolts on doors and locks on windows. CPTED is drawing crime prevention measures into the blueprints of your building and landscaping or retro-fitting a pre-existing structure and landscape to reduce crime. This is done by implementing the six principles of CPTED, which are: natural surveillance, access management, territoriality, physical maintenance, order maintenance and other factors. These principles combined form the basis for CPTED Assessments.

Other elements more specifically included in CPTED assessments are:

* Perimeter Boundary

* Vehicle Entry Locations
* Facility Grounds (including roadways and wayfinding)
* Parking and Pedestrian Pathways
* Buildings
* Policy & Procedures
* Recommendations for improved security practices

The magnificent aspect of utilizing CPTED assessments to secure your facility is that aesthetically pleasing designs are at the core of CPTED. An extra bonus is the fact that applying these principles is relatively inexpensive.
