Our mission is
to be a leader in innovative responses to security and
public safety needs of all sectors. We accomplish this by
providing extensive personalized training and
state-of-the-art educational opportunities.
NCPI History
The National Crime Prevention Institute was founded by John Klotter. While
visiting England in 1968, John was impressed by the crime
prevention efforts that were being utilized there by law
enforcement officials. This inspired him to implement the
concept at the University of Louisville.
NCPI opened its
doors in 1971, holding classes on the university’s Shelby
Campus and operating on a grant obtained from the Ford
Foundation. Additional funding received from the Department
of Justice helped subsidize the project during the initial
years of operation.
As time went by, NCPI grew to develop contracts with private
and public vendors, most notably, the United States Air
Force and focused on a basic crime prevention program which
consisted of:
