Bonners who participate in Alternative Spring Break may also include hours spent in direct service and leadership training for that program. Bonners have an entire calendar year to complete the program and may participate in the program for two terms. Selection into this program is competitive with a limited number of spots available each academic year. Margaret “Margot” Royar joined the Honors program in Fall 2005 after graduating from Rowan County Senior High School in Morehead Kentucky. Margot is an Economics major. In her free time Margot enjoys drawing, writing and playing Guitar Hero. She is actively involved in Freshman LEAD, RSA, REACH, SGA and Honors. This year she is participating in the Honors Overseers Mentoring program and working on establishing a multicultural sorority on campus. Margot is a very laid-back and easily approachable student. She enjoys Chinese food, Louisville Football, reading Harry Potter and laughing at ridiculous jokes and hanging out with her friends. Some interesting things about Margot that people may not know are that she was home schooled from grades 2-11. She says that her contribution to making the world a better place is picking up trash when she sees it on the ground. Her words of advice are, “No matter how tempting don’t go out and party the night before an exam, it isn’t worth it and you will totally regret it.” Should you see Margot around campus be sure to spend some face time with her.
James Walker is a Junior in the Honors program. He is a graduate of DuPont Manual High School who enjoys running, swimming and reading in his free time. James is a Psychology major who describes himself as random. He is good natured and easy to talk to as well. Something interesting about James that people may not know is that he has two dogs that he loves to walk and train. His favorite things about Honors are the learning environment and the interesting motivation of his Honors peers. James’ favorite book is Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind. His words of advice are, “Stick with it.“ So whether you see him out chewing his fingernails or laughing at stupid people tricks, it’s always a good idea to spend some face time with him.
