Recruitment Event!

Accolade, a program for our prospective scholarship and Honors students is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10 in the SAC Multipurpose Room, as well as Etscorn, the Honors House and other campus venues. Student volunteers for the SAC are needed for the following times and purposes: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., help with setup and make families feel welcome; and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., mingle with families during lunch and help with clean up. Community service hours are available. If you are interested, please contact Megan Adams at megan.adams@louisville.edu or call 852-7540. Students who wish to volunteer at the Honors sites should contact Dr. Richardson.

Honors Volunteer Program (HVP) Meeting

HVP first meets Sept. 6 from 12:20 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. in the Etscorn Honors Center classroom with a pizza snack. HVP meetings are every first Tuesday of each month at the same time and place. Kim Johnson-Shaver is scheduled to talk about America Reads, our first and ongoing activity, and the Bonner Leader program. The agenda for fall and spring semesters and volunteering for Accolade are also on the docket.

 

Honors Advising Sign Ups

Begin Sept. 13

To take advantage of priority or early registration for the spring 2006 semester, sign up for advising appointments at the front desk in the Etscorn Honors Center in Threlkeld beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 8 a.m. Advising appointments begin Tuesday, Sept. 20. Honors course schedules for spring 2006 are now available online. Online Honors registration begins Oct. 21.

 

Registration in each Honors course requires prior approval from the Honors director or an academic counselor. All students with fewer than 24 hours must see a University Honors academic counselor. If you have an overall GPA of 3.35 or higher (or an ACT composite score of 27+ and a high school GPA of 3.35 or higher if you are a freshman), you are eligible to take University Honors courses.

 

HONORS CONFERENCE

Kentucky Honors Roundtable

The fall 2005 Kentucky Honors Roundtable is hosted by Murray State University on Oct. 7-8. Students attending as presenters receive meals, housing and transportation provided by the Honors Program. Freshmen, don't hesitate to jump right in and participate. Saturday will be a day of presentations with breakfast and lunch provided. Roundtables are fun and a great place to develop your Honors Program connections. Applications are available now in the literature rack in the Etscorn Honors Center. Senior Honors Project

Thursday, Sept. 8, at 4 p.m. is the date for the Senior Honors Project information meeting held in Ekstrom Library, room 254. Anyone beginning a Senior Honors Project during the 2005-2006 academic year needs to attend. Come find out about the latest in Senior Honors Project support resources. Meet the faculty readers and ask questions. A good deal of Senior Honors Project information is posted online, but this material is best used as a backup for information acquired in real time! Dean David Wiegman, admissions dean at the med school, visits the Honors Program Monday, Sept. 19 for a pre-med discussion. The program is in Threlkeld room 132 at 5:30 p.m. Freshmen especially benefit from this visit, but sophomores may also find it helpful. Anyone interested in pre-med is welcome.
