Attention Fall 2009 Honors Graduates

If you are planning on graduating in the Fall 2009 semester and are finishing Honors Scholars you need to make sure you come by the Etscorn Honors Center to see Tony Robinson. There is a form you will need to fill out to ensure that you are given the distinction University Honors Scholar when you graduate.

"American Psycho," Saturday & Sunday 10/17 - 10/18 @ 6 & 8:30 p.m. - Christian Bale's 2000 breakthrough performance. A wealthy New York investment banking executive hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he escalates deeper into his illogical, gratuitous fantasies.

HVP -- Honors Volunteer Program

HVP is an organization that seeks to give Honors Program students opportunities to volunteer for university-sponsored activities, and in the greater Louisville community. HVP hosts a monthly lunch meeting in Etscorn Honors Center to distribute information about each month’s activities. The first HVP meeting of the fall semester will be held in the Etscorn Honors Center Classroom, Nov. 5, 2009 from 12:15- 12:50 p.m. For more information or to be added to the HVP listserv please contact Katie Trimble at krtrim01@louisville.edu

Colloquium on Diversity

Dr. Fashaad Crawford, Faculty-In-Residence for the Cultural Center, will facilitate informal lunch colloquia and roundtable discussions at the University of Louisville Cultural Center the 2nd Wednesday of every month (12-1p.m.). Discussions are designed to provide cultural programming, discourse, and resources for faculty, instructors, staff, students, and administrators. The workshops will include teaching strategies, emerging trends in research, stimulating dialogue, and discussions on assessing diversity perceptions within the classroom and throughout campus. Free lunch is provided at every session.

HONORS ADVISING CONTINUES
Walk-in Advising Begins Oct. 22

If you haven't signed up for an advising appointment via AdvisorTrac, please come in on Oct. 22 and 23 for walk-in advising. Honors priority registration begins Oct. 23. Honors spring course schedules are available online. Please come prepared and on time to appointments.

Registration in each Honors course requires prior approval from the Honors director or an academic counselor. All students with fewer than 24 hours must see a University Honors academic counselor to register for any classes.

Got Research? Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Present Your Research in Frankfort at the Annual Posters-at-the-Capitol

U of L undergraduate researchers are sought to present research papers to Kentucky legislators at Posters-at-the-Capitol 2010 held in the state capitol building in Frankfort on Jan. 28, 2010, during the legislative session. Research, scholarly and creative accomplishments provide legislators a chance to better understand the importance of faculty-mentored undergraduate scholarship. Poster presentations are being sought from undergraduates in ALL DISCIPLINARY AREAS! Online information is available at Posters-at-the-Capitol 2009. The abstract submission deadline is Oct. 21, 2009. Noyce Scholar's Grant

The Noyce Scholarship is a scholarship that is available to individuals who are pursuing a degree in Math, Chemistry, Physics, or Biology and have an interest in continuing on to become a teacher. The National Science foundation will be awarding a minimum of $10,000 per year in forgivable loans in return for teaching two years for every year of scholarship received. The information about the scholarship can be found on the following website: http://louisville.edu/education/ssa/noyce/

The deadline for the scholarship is October 15th.

Post-bac Pre-med Certificate Program

The Post-Bac Pre-med Certificate Program for Career Changers is accepting applications for the spring 2010 semester. The application deadline is November 1, 2009. Prospective applicants may access an application at our website louisville.edu/medschool/postbacpremed/. This program accepts 10 students per semester (fall and spring admission only).

Our program serves as a navigation system exclusively for post-bac pre-med students and is a one stop shop for them to receive the academic and professional guidance, moral support and medical school preparation necessary to become a competitive medical school applicant. Our goal is to help our students successfully matriculate into medical school. It's not too late to become the physician you always wanted to be! The fridge and pantry in the Honors House has been restocked and is better than ever! Honors Student Council would like to thank everyone for their support. Inclusion and Equity Internships

The College of Arts & Science Dean*s Office for International, Diversity and Outreach Programs is recruiting 5 interns. The purpose of the internship is to provide students with an opportunity to apply their education and passion for inclusion and equity to actual programming.

We are looking for motivated students with a passion for diversity and social justice. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.7 and be registered as a full-time student. Duties include, but are not limitied to: participate in a monthly
dialogue regarding diversity and social justice issues; commit a minimum of two office hours each week; conceive and plan one program under the supervision of IDOP staff and provide assistance for undergraduate student programming. This is an unpaid internship.

Please note that in addition to food and drink being prohibited in the Honors House computer lab, we also kindly request you refrain from eating and drinking in the Etscorn Honors Center classroom, rm. 132. Exceptions to this rule will be made for meetings, study sessions and other events, but only as approved by Dr. Richardson.
