SCHOLARSHIPS and FELLOWSHIPS

Mary Churchill Humphrey Centenary Memorial Scholarship 2009 -2010

Mary Churchill Humphrey endowed the University of Louisville Centenary Memorial Scholarship in the late 1940s.  This generous scholarship has enabled graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences to pursue advanced study in the United Kingdom for more than fifty years.  Competition for the scholarship is open to students in all disciplines within the College of Arts & Sciences. For the academic year 2009-2010 candidates may apply to study at any English, Scottish, Welsh, or Irish University enrolled in a one-year graduate degree program. The donor placed great emphasis on doing this study in a liberal arts setting and maximizing the opportunities for cultural exchange while abroad.

The 2009-2010 MCH scholarship will cover a significant proportion of the winning scholar's tuition, room and board, college fees, other living expenses and transportation.  However, given the rising costs of higher education and living expenses in the United Kingdom in combination with the impact of the current economic market on  Endowment funds, students applying for the MCH should expect they may need to meet some portion of their expected budget with personal funds or a graduate school loan.  The exact amount of this year's MCH monetary award has not been set.

Eligibility and the application: Academically distinguished College of Arts & Sciences seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates (since 2004) are encouraged to apply. More information, and an application, are available. All applicants should schedule an appointment with Dr. Patricia Condon for details about the required application essay.
