Computer TECHniques

Just a reminder: both Etscorn and the Honors House now serve those with wireless laptops. Please note that the Honors lab computers are primarily to be used for homework and research and NOT for games. Students should not drink or eat around the PCs. Should you experience any problems, please contact Will Armstrong in the Honors House so he can address any issues.

Honors Printer No Longer Available

Due to improper use of the printer, increasing costs and budget concerns, we are no longer able to offer printing to students using the computer lab at the Honors House. Students may still use the computers for researching and writing papers and assignments, as well as checking e-mail and surfing the internet. We recommend printing at Ekstrom Library (a bank of computers is near the reference desk). We appreciate your understanding.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES and Internships
Admissions Office

Admissions Office

The Office of Admissions is looking for shadow students to host prospective shadow students on campus for a day. We match potential students and their U of L hosts by academic discipline. Take the student to one or two classes and then to lunch, paid for by the Admissions Office. This is a great opportunity for service hours and to spread your enthusiasm for U of L to possible incoming Honors students! There is a Shadow Host interest meeting Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 12:15 p.m. in the SAC 305. Lunch will be provided. Contact: Megan Adams, 852-7540 or megan.adams@louisville.edu.

Become a REACH tutor!

REACH is hiring continuing to hire Computer Resource Center tutors at this time. We still need a few more students in this area due the many hours of operation of our 2 centers. The application is online at:

America Reads Tutors Needed!
(Federal-Work Study)

America Reads Tutors work off-campus in either a Jefferson County Public School or local non-profit after-school program. Those who work at schools tutor reading, math, computer literacy or English as a Second Language. They may also assist teachers in the classroom and help with special literacy events.
Those who work in after-school programs assist with homework help, English as a Second Language tutoring, or help plan and facilitate creative or recreational activities.
Students are required to attend all training sessions and on-going meetings once per month.  Students will be paid for this time.  In addition, they must attend orientation and any special training their site might require—this time will also be compensated.

This position starts at $8.00 per hour and after one successful semester of tutoring (upon site recommendation) students are raised to $8.50.  This does not mean students receive a higher federal work-study award, it means that they earn their money faster and thus work less hours and have more time to study.

For more information contact Kim Shaver, Service Learning Coordinator at 852-4333 or at kkjohn01@louisville.edu
