Graduate Programs
Master of Art in Teaching in Art Education (certification in grades K-12)

The Master of Arts in Teaching program prepares candidates to teach art to students from the primary grades through high school.

Admission to the MAT program in art requires admission to the Graduate School, admission to the teacher education program through the College of Education and Human Development, and completion of the undergraduate teaching major in Art (P-12).

Completion of the degree requires 36 credit hours, including student teaching in a primary/intermediate, middle school or secondary school classroom.

EDTL 602 Exploring Teaching within the Socio-Cultural Context of P-12 Schools (3 hrs)
EDTL 607 Learning Theory and Human Growth and Development (3 hrs)
ART 508 Art Education Methods/Research I (3 hrs)
ART 518 Art Education Methods/Research II (3 hrs)



Mid-Point Assessment: Completion of all Education courses listed above with a minimum of a 3.0 in each, completion of 75% of content major courses with a minimum 2.5 GPA, PRAXIS Examination has been taken, no major faculty concerns.
EDTL 619 Student Teaching (6 hrs)
EDSP 545 Exceptional Child in the Regular Classroom (3 hrs)



Certification Exit Assessment: "B-" or better in student teaching, satisfactory portfolio, passing score on PRAXIS Examination, 2.5 GPA overall and 2.5 GPA in content area. EDTL 503 Developing Cross-Cultural Competence* (3 hrs). ART 500 Level Academic Support courses (6 hrs)

MAT Degree Exit Assessment: Certification exit requirements plus a satisfactory updated portfolio, and a 3.0 overall GPA.
